Rescue Rex: A Reminder to Adopt

Rex the Chihuahua mix has been waiting way too long for his moment. He’s spent over 1,000 days at the Vanderpump Dog Foundation in Los Angeles, hoping for someone to walk in, take one look at him, and just know he’s the one. But in the past three years since he was rescued from a high-kill shelter, Rex has learned that the spotlight doesn’t always fall on him. Each day, he watches new faces pass his kennel, and over time, he’s stopped expecting anyone to pick him.

Rex’s story caught the heart of Hollywood music agent Nima Nasseri, who launched the TikTok account @savethedogs to help get Rex—and so many other adoptable pets—their shot at a loving home. In a recent video, Rex is seen huddled quietly in his kennel, resigned to his quiet corner. Since he started his journey on TikTok, the video has reached over half a million views and racked up tens of thousands of likes, making it clear that people want to help this little guy find his family.

Nima shares that Rex might be a little “temperamental”—maybe even a bit snappy when he’s nervous. But for anyone who knows dogs, you know a lot of that can come from the trauma and fear they’ve experienced. The amazing part? When Nima visited and extended his hand to Rex, Rex was calm, open, and so different. He even thrived when spending time with a trainer and other dogs. Give him the love and security he deserves, and Rex is a sweet, snuggly soul who just wants belly rubs and some faith.

The power of social media has been nothing short of magical. Within days of Nima’s post, the foundation received ten adoption applications for Rex. Rex’s story has highlighted just how powerful adoption awareness can be—and why adopting is such a better choice than buying.

So many dogs are out there waiting, just like Rex, dreaming of love but getting overlooked. Imagine how much joy these animals would bring to their new families if we opened our hearts and chose to adopt instead of shop. Rex’s story also opened the door to an amazing new mission for Nima. Inspired by the connection he saw between homeless people and their dogs, he’s now working to open a dog rescue and training facility, scheduled for 2025. He even started a GoFundMe to support an experienced dog trainer who’s currently experiencing homelessness, hoping to create a space where both humans and dogs find the stability and love they deserve.

If Rex’s journey to find his family teaches us anything, it’s that every dog deserves a chance—especially the ones still waiting. If you're thinking about adding a furry friend to your family, consider adopting. Let’s show more pups like Rex that they’re worth it, too.
